Goodbye NIOO

Last Friday it was time for an ‘afscheidsborrel’ (farewell drinks) at my previous employer the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO) in Wageningen, The Netherlands. Mind you there is still a lot of work to be finished so there will be plenty of contact in the next year (I’ll of course blog about the papers that come out of my NIOO work). The NIOO is housed in a beautiful building designed according to the latest insights into sustainable design. Temperature storage 300 meters underground, vacuum toilets that use very little water, extraction of phosphorous from pee and poo, rooftop experiments aimed to harvest electricity from plant roots and an artificial batcave on site are just some of the features, read more here.
